I checked eight real-time AI interview assistants against their own websites on October 17, 2026, looking only at what matters on a Mac: whether there is a native macOS app, whether a minimum macOS version is stated, what each one costs, whether there is a free tier, and which interview types it covers. If you want a Mac desktop app with a stated macOS version, Final Round AI is the one that gives the clearest number (macOS 14.4+). If you want something to try for free first, Parakeet AI, Verve AI and Sensei AI list free tiers with short sessions. If you want to pay per minute without a subscription, yestotheoffer does that. The details and the gaps are below.
Disclosure: this page is published by yestotheoffer, and yestotheoffer is one of the eight tools. Every tool is judged on the same criteria, and where a competitor does something better than we do, the article says so. Prices and features change often, so treat the table as a snapshot and confirm on the vendor's page before paying.
Comparison table (last checked October 17, 2026)

Sources for every cell are listed at the end. "Not stated" means I could not find it on the vendor pages I opened, not that it does not exist.
How we compared
I used the same checklist for every tool and only recorded what the vendor itself says.
- Is there a native Mac app, or is it a browser extension or web page?
- Does the vendor state a minimum macOS version?
- Does its own setup or help text mention macOS permissions (Microphone, Screen Recording, system audio)?
- What is the listed price, and is there a free tier or trial?
- Which interview types and platforms does it say it supports?
I did not run timed tests, so there are no accuracy or latency figures here. I did not rank anyone by overall quality, because the right tool depends on whether you need coding help, behavioral practice, a low upfront cost or a free trial. Where a vendor's pages blocked me or left a field blank, I left it as "not stated" instead of guessing. Verve AI's page also blocked my first requests, and I only got its details on a later attempt through a different address.
What macOS asks you to allow
macOS protects the microphone and screen content on a per-app basis. In System Settings, under Privacy & Security, an app that listens to your voice needs Microphone access. An app that reads what is on your screen, or captures sound coming from another app such as a video call, typically needs Screen & System Audio Recording access. macOS shows a prompt the first time, and you can change it later in the same settings pane. You may need to quit and reopen the app after changing a permission, and some permissions can reset after a major macOS update.
Which permissions a given tool needs is not something to guess. Open the tool's own setup guide and follow it, ideally a day before the interview rather than ten minutes before. Among the eight tools here, only a few say anything on the pages I read: Final Round AI says its live help listens through your microphone and that screen help requires the appropriate screen recording permission, and LockedIn AI's Mac guide walks through microphone access for Chrome. The rest do not describe permissions on the pages I could open.
Native Mac app vs browser extension
A native app is installed like any other Mac program. It is not tied to one browser, and it can usually work with whatever call or coding window you have open. In exchange, it asks for more macOS permissions and you have to keep it updated. If the vendor does not state a macOS version, check that your Mac is on a recent release before the interview.
A Chrome extension installs in a minute and does not need a separate app. It only works inside Chrome, so if your interview runs in another browser or in a desktop client such as the Zoom app, you have to confirm that it still works. Parakeet AI, for example, says live sessions need desktop Chrome even though it also has a desktop app. LockedIn AI's Mac guide tells you to install its Chrome extension.
Neither choice is better in general. A good rule is to test the exact setup you will use on the interview day, with the same call platform, on the same Mac.
The tools, one by one
yestotheoffer
Best for people who want pay-as-you-go minutes instead of a subscription, with a Mac and Windows desktop app.
yestotheoffer is a desktop app for macOS and Windows. It is not a mobile app and not a Chrome extension. It transcribes the live conversation, suggests answer structures, analyzes coding questions and screenshots, and uses your resume and notes to make suggestions relevant to your own experience. Transcription and translation cover more than 10 languages, with quality varying by mode and model. It is designed to work alongside Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, CoderPad, HackerRank and LeetCode, though platform behavior can change, so verify before an interview.
Pricing on its site is a minute balance: $9.99 for 90 universal minutes, plus $29.99 and $59.99 packs. Coding-only screenshot sessions use 0.2 minute per minute, so 90 minutes can cover up to 450 minutes of coding-only help. Sessions with cloud transcription use 1.0 minute per minute, and turning coding on as well costs nothing extra. Unused minutes do not expire, and new users get 30 free minutes. The site does not state a minimum macOS version.
Where it is weaker: there is no mock-interview or practice mode (it is on a roadmap, not available), it is desktop only, and it is newer and smaller than the big names below.
Final Round AI
Best for people who want a stated macOS version and a full prep-plus-live product, and are happy to pay monthly.
Final Round AI runs as a desktop app on macOS 14.4+ and Windows, according to its pricing page. Its free plan covers preparation (goals, resume and job description parsing), while live CoPilot sessions need a Pro plan listed as "$25+/mo", and the page states there is no free trial for live sessions. Pro also lists practice interviews, automated debriefs and screen help. Supported live platforms include Zoom, Meet, Teams, Webex, HackerRank and CoderPad. Practice scenarios include general, coding, system design, behavioral, product case, data/ML, salary negotiation and recruiter screen.
It is stronger than yestotheoffer on practice interviews, which we do not have. Our full write-ups are in yestotheoffer vs Final Round AI and the Final Round AI review.
LockedIn AI
Best for people who want a mix of live copilot and mock interviews and don't mind the setup details.
Its pricing page lists a desktop app, a mobile app and a browser-based Interview Copilot, along with coding, phone and online assessment helpers and mock interviews. Plans are described as "Unlimited" or "Credits", and the page says credits never expire. The page text I could read did not show amounts or a free tier. Its Mac setup guide uses the Chrome extension, tells you to allow microphone access for Chrome in System Settings, and mentions sharing a Chrome tab with tab audio or the full screen with system audio. It does not state a macOS version. See LockedIn AI review for more.
Cluely
Best for people who want one assistant for meetings and calls in general, with a free plan.
Cluely describes live meeting assistance across Zoom, Slack, Webex, Teams and Google Meet. Its pricing page lists a free Starter plan with limited AI responses, Pro at $19.99/month, and a "Pro + Undetectability" tier at $149.99/month. The pages I read do not name the operating systems or a minimum macOS version, and mention a desktop app only in general terms. Its pages do not focus on interview types. See the Cluely review and Cluely alternatives.
Interview Coder
Best for coding interviews if you accept a high price.
Interview Coder offers Windows and Mac downloads. The listed plans are a free download (AI features need a subscription), Monthly Pro at $299/month with 1,000 usage credits, and Lifetime Pro at $799 one-time, both shown as discounted from higher struck-through prices. It lists system design, behavioral, full stack, AI/ML, consulting, data analyst, trading and PM interviews, but describes its focus as real-time help with coding questions. No macOS version or permissions are stated. For cheaper coding options see Interview Coder alternatives and best AI coding interview assistants.
Parakeet AI
Best for people who want to try a short session free and also practice with mock interviews.
Parakeet AI says its desktop app runs on Windows and macOS, and that live sessions need desktop Chrome. It lists an Unlimited plan at $149.90/month, $49.99/month billed yearly ($599.90), or $78/week, and credits starting at $38 for one (0.5 credit covers a 30-minute call). Its dashboard offers a 10-minute free session and a free first mock interview. Sessions can be real or mock, and it says it also works for coding interviews and online exams. It does not state a macOS version or permissions. See the Parakeet AI review.
Verve AI
Best for people who want a free plan plus mock interviews and a long list of interview formats.
Verve AI lists browser, macOS, Windows and mobile options, and its installation steps refer to a universal macOS .dmg installer. Its pricing page lists a free plan with 3 Copilot sessions of 15 minutes a month and 5 mock sessions, a Standard plan with 5 sessions of 60 minutes, and a Pro plan with unlimited sessions of 90 minutes. The pages I could read did not show prices for the paid plans. It says it supports behavioral, technical, coding, online assessment and HireVue interviews. No macOS version or permissions are stated. See the Verve AI review.
Sensei AI
Best for people who want a cheap-looking annual rate and a free trial of short sessions.
Sensei AI lists a free plan with 15-minute Copilot sessions and a Pro plan at $89/month billed monthly or $24/month billed annually. Its pages say it works with Zoom, Teams and Google Meet, and that its Coding Copilot works on coding platforms. They do not name Mac or Windows, a macOS version, specific interview types or permissions. See the Sensei AI review and yestotheoffer vs Sensei AI.

What happens to your data
Each tool handles data differently, and not every vendor explains it on the pages I read. For yestotheoffer: your resume, notes documents and desktop interview history are stored on your own computer and can be viewed or deleted at any time. To generate suggestions, relevant text, screenshots and resume details are sent to AI model providers, and live audio is streamed to a speech-to-text provider. Audio recordings are not kept. For the other tools, read the privacy policy before uploading a resume or sharing your screen.
Employer rules and detection risk
Several of these tools advertise that they stay hidden during screen sharing. Treat that as marketing, not a guarantee. Screen-sharing software, proctoring tools and interviewers can notice unusual behavior, and no vendor can promise that you will not be caught. More importantly, many employers and schools prohibit outside assistance during interviews and assessments. Breaking that rule can end your application or cost you an offer after the fact.
Using any of these tools is your responsibility. Read the interview instructions, ask the recruiter if live assistance is allowed, and where it is not, use these tools only for preparation. For more on the detection question, see is an AI interview assistant undetectable.
